A Dressage Day - Portrait and Ridden Images with Sarah and Bumble
Updated: Mar 8, 2022
We've just seen Charlotte Dujardin and chestnut gelding Gio get themselves a bronze medal at the Olympics in the dressage; so it seems perfect timing to show you some images from my recent chestnut dressage horse photoshoot in Sussex.
My models on this occasion were Sarah Rogers and Bumble; with Sarah's Mum, Debbie, as our top assistant/ears forward encourager...

This was Bumble's first photoshoot experience, and although a little unsure at first, he certainly did not disappoint as you can see from the image above. Sarah was a complete natural, so the two of them combined allowed me to capture some really lovely images.
On the day of the shoot the weather was looking a little hit and miss, and although it is ideal to shoot on a dry day, it is always possible to work around the weather. When I arrived we made the most of it still being dry and headed up to the lane that leads to the yard. The lane was surrounded by gorgeous green trees which provided a great contrast with Bumble's chestnut coat.

For our next location we went back into the yard and towards the fields. The path to the fields was lined with trees and looked out over the local countryside.
The weather was starting to turn a little at this point, so we decided to move on to the indoor school, but the first stop was the timeless stable window shot.

I absolutely love the images we came out with from the indoor school. I know that often it is easy to look at places around a stable yard and wonder how they fit in to a photoshoot, however with the right angles, poses and light you will always be surprised with the results.
To capture the below image I was lying flat in the sand, it has become a common occurrence that I always leave a photoshoot covered in sand and/or mud..!

After the in hand images in the school it was time to get Bumble tacked up and do some ridden images. It was still raining, so we returned to the indoor.
I absolutely adore dressage horses and the way they move, I could watch them all day, so photographing Sarah and Bumble was a real treat.
Thank you to Sarah, Debbie and of course Bumble for a lovely afternoon!
