Heathfield Agricultural Show 2022

In April 2022 I met with Nicola Magill, Heathfield Agricultural Show Secretary, to discuss the local agricultural show and the areas that I would be photographing for the show's social media and website.

Fast-forward to a sunny and warm Friday 27th May and I was at the showground on the final setup day making sure I knew exactly where everything was and meeting some friendly faces along the way. My camera came too and captured some of the final preparations underway (note, not a real horse!!):

I arrived early the following morning, show day Saturday 28th May, ready to capture the huge variety of events occurring across the showground throughout the day. This was the calm before the (pleasant!) storm with a steady stream of livestock and tradespeople arriving.

Soon enough the gates opened to the public, and the one day agricultural show quickly filled with eager faces ready to see what was on offer and on show for the day. I spent the day constantly on the move photographing the various areas of the show. A few of my highlights were as follows:

Terrier racing - An absolute joy to photograph! I positioned my camera on the haybales at the end and was able to capture the gorgeous faces of these dogs as they were racing (and watching their friends race!):

Shetland Pony Grand National - Much like the terrier racing, I just loved being able to photograph the determination within the Shetland Pony Grand National. I also enjoyed photographing the "behind the scenes" as they waited for their time in the ring:

The Hunt Display - Always a highlight to watch and such a wonderful experience when everyone gets to come inside the arena and meet the lovely hounds and give them a fuss:

The Queen's Green Canopy - Oak Tree Planting by the Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex - The Queen's Green Canopy is an initiative that was developed to encourage people to "plant a tree for the Jubilee" and has since been extended to the end of March 2023 to allow people to plant a tree in memoriam of Her Majesty. At Heathfield Agricultural Show the Lord-Lieutenant of East Sussex officially launched the initiative in the County by planting an Oak Tree on the showground:

"Sunset" Cornet - End of Show Display - A beautiful and calming end to the show day:

My highlights are just that, highlights! The show is packed full of different things to see and try, so I have included a small example of even more of the different areas of the show within the images below. Look out for the sheep show, livestock, hurricane flyby, impressive displays and of course lots of tasty food!

Thank you so much to Heathfield Agricultural Show for having me, and I am very much looking forward to being back this year on Saturday 27th May 2023 to photograph the event for the show's social media and website again.
